Strawberry Sundays featuring Paul Slattery talk
Sunday, 12 November 2017 | 1.00pm - 4.00pm
This Sunday is the Unknown Treasures Vintage Village Fair at Stockport Market Hall and we will be continuing our series of social events called Strawberry Sundays every second Sunday of the month to celebrate the legacy of the town’s iconic Strawberry Studios.
Strawberry Sundays are hosted by Peter Wadsworth, the historian who has been responsible for the resurgence of interest in Strawberry Studios and who created the #Strawberry50 exhibition at Stockport Museum.
Peter’s guest will be music photographer Paul Slattery who has worked with many of Manchester’s iconic bands and who will be with us to give an illustrated talk about his famous Joy Division photo shoot. Contrary to popular belief Paul’s shoot was not in Apr 79 during the “Unknown Pleasures” recording – what happened was that Dave McCullough of Sounds had the pre-release tape of the album and was playing it in the Sounds offices – Dave and Paul went up to do an interview and photoshoot on July 28th – they were recording the “Transmission” single that day.
Paul will also be bringing some original work prints from the Joy Division sessions and also from The Smiths and Oasis photo sessions. These will all be on sale at £100 each if you would like to buy yourself a piece of music history (cash only).
The talk takes place at 2pm. It is free to attend and although tickets for this event have already been allocated through Eventbrite limited seating may still available on a first come first served basis.
Why not make a day of it by visiting the #Strawberry50 exhibition in Stockport Museum (11am – 5pm) and the Vintage Village Unknown Treasures Fair in the Market Hall (10am-4pm)
